cupcakes are pretty much a staple around our house. we love discovering new bakeries and trying creative flavors. but our very favorite cupcakes are those we make in our very own kitchen. homemade treats are made infinitely better solely because the bakers (us) hold ultimate control over the frosting to cake ratio, which we agree should be at least two to one.
this weekend we spotted a yummy recipe over on bakerella‘s blog and just had to give it a try. while our pictures may not be quite as pretty as her professional ones, we can guarantee the finished product was 100% just as delicious.
without further ado, oreo cupcakes in all their frosted glory… (and some pretty plates and stands to put them on).

oh august, where did you come from? and for that matter, where did the first half of the year go? we’ve blinked and it’s already time to start
preparing planning for our annual halloween party and the rest of the holiday season.
even though it is still nearly 100 degrees here every single day, we can’t help dreaming of brisk autumn days and with it a little bit of fall decor. here are some things we’re craving for fall.
what are you most excited about this time of year?

hello friends. today we thought we would take you on a tour of a piece of our home. we can’t wait to share all our favorite things with you as we (slowly) finish decorating each room. behind door number one we have: her home office.
i find that a neat and organized area is much more conductive to creativity. when my environment is in order, it allows my mind to work more freely. so first i majorly decluttered, then i decorated! i saw the cork board squares (above my desk) at staples and immediately envisioned them hung together to create an inspiration/ mood board, which i fully plan on changing up weekly. right now i like how it’s purple and playful and makes me smile.
this is my office. where i think, work, write, and dream. i hope you like my little space.
what keeps you calm and focused?

on a recent shopping trip to a new favorite shop called the farmer’s wife we spotted the most perfectly worn, vintage looking clothespins. unfortunately as we tried to purchase said clothespins we were informed they were only sold with the three hundred-dollar monstrosity of a birdcage they were attached to. oh. plan b.
instead we went on a mission to create our own aged clothespins, and found that for the bargain price of $2.99 target superstore will sell you fifty quality crafted wooden clothespins (found in the laundry aisle). then simply paint, and/or decorate, in any color you wish and voila. clothespins for every occasion.
we have been using them for just about everything you can think of: hanging pictures, kitchen tasks, air drying laundry, and the list goes on. here’s a fun DIY how to, too.

another thing learned while hosting guests for a week was that we are in need of an actual defined coffee bar/ nook area. easy access to coffee grounds, sugars and syrups, creamers, stirring sticks, and mugs in close vicinity are necessary to creating just such a place. we have noted several inspirational ideas and are in the process of creating our very own coffee-house corner.
we are particularly fond of the little black board menu and the dymo labeled flavoring syrups.

there are certain things about being grown-up that are awesome. buying household appliances is not one of them. after furnishing our living room, dining room, game room, patio, and pool deck…we realized (in hind sight) maaaybe a washer and dryer should have been the first thing bought, instead of the last.
so while we decide, eer rather try to figure out, why one steam dryer is better than the next steam dryer, the decorating of the laundry room will seem far more intriguing once there are actually useful items in there.
working on organized function meets fun room to do laundry in. here are some rooms we heart.

if we learned anything from these past few weeks it would be that one can never have too many pillows, or towels for that matter. pillows have a way of making the most simple bed look inviting and infinitely more cozy. so it’s a good thing we have a linen closet chock full of extra pillows (for some reason). i can pretty confidently say that every pillow in our house was in use at some point or another.
we have also decided we would like to grow our collection of throw pillows and floor cushions, beginning with these absolutely irresistible scrabble letters for the game room.
