Every house has a wall that stands awkwardly empty, you know the one. ours happens to be in the living room.
we also have a certain obsession with iPhone photography, and since both of our instagram feeds are nearing crash capacity, we decided to try our hand at insta-wall art (which for the record, was not so instant but still every bit worth the work).
we love our new wall of square-picture goodness. and Cupcake pup apparently does too.

we are sort of enamored with decorating every square inch of our house. we love to make every aspect of every room really feel like ours. with that being said we have been hard at work decorating, painting, finding, and refinishing walls and furniture ever since moving in last april.
take a little peek at our upstairs hallway.
the carpet was torn out and replaced with beautiful wood laminate. we re-finished the bannister (and all remaining 90s-brown wood in the house) a nice bright white. and all the walls have been painted.
jesse designed the black and white concert prints from some of our favorite concerts.we then had them printed poster size and framed. we like how the black and white against the grey wall turned out.
thanks for looking.

the most wonderful time of the year is wonderful for so many reasons. not the least of which are the ornaments, evergreens, gingerbread houses, and everything else that makes the house feel festive and full of love.
growing up my mom used to wrap our bannister in garland and lights, this year i couldn’t wait to wrap our first bannister in green garland too.

we had searched far and wide (well, within a 100 mile craigslist radius) for the perfect piano to complete our music/ game room. let me just say one thing about craigslist, pictures are deceiving.
for christmas i finally found just the fixer-upper we had been envisioning and they even offered to deliver. sold.
nothing a lot of scrubbing and a coat of our favorite grey paint (or two) couldn’t fix.

this year the goal is to actually publish our projects instead of keeping the photos hostage on our Canon. too often we start with good intentions, and never get around to sharing our completed results with you.
to kick off 2012 we have a DIY wall art project you just might want to try.
to begin our story, we found the perfect size canvas at Ikea but weren’t too crazy about the recognizably Ikea print. so we picked an inspirational quote we wanted to read everyday and the rest…is below.
1. pick a print or canvas. using adhesive letters (we used BetterLetter 3″ helvetica vinyl letters from Michael’s), arrange your quote.
4. we wanted our paint to be textured so we used several generous coats. if you want a smoother finish try using spray paint.
5. let paint dry for several hours. carefully peel off letters to reveal your awesome new piece of art. ta da!
- painting or picture
- painters tape
- tape measure
- adhesive letters
- paint or spray paint
- paint brush

with the influx of autumn inspired magazines, all styled with cozy looking blankets, cable knit pillows, and crock pots galore it is officially beginning to feel like fall. aside from the (still) 100 degree days, we can’t help but look forward to holiday decor and hot chocolate by the fire.
today my inspiration board made the transition from summer brights to fall, with cooler colors and warmer looking rooms. loving lots of texture and repeat patterns in the gray and turquoise palette, perfectly curated by west elm and sur la table (oddly enough). my wall looks something like this…

it would seem we have been searching for the perfect throw pillows to complete our living room look for quite some time. failing to find what we were hoping for in the way of stripes and rustic vintage i finally decided to sew some myself.
we picked up a couple of yards of lightweight stripe fabric and some lovely burlap looking linen at Joann’s over the weekend. despite the fact that it has been over 100 degrees all summer long, monday it decided to rain. rainy days are perfectly acceptable sewing days. so i used this super helpful tutorial for reference and within an hour we had two pretty new pillows.
i think i might make dozens more. in every fabric. for every holiday.
